My Support System

It is extremely important to have support systems in life, especially if you are struggling with your mental health. I am extremely lucky to have the support system I have; I was not only born into but I also married into a loving supportive family. My support system consists of family, friends, my family doctor, and my therapist. It is so important to have a support system that listens and respects you.

If you have never dealt with mental health issues, it may be hard to know how to support someone who is struggling. Some ways my support system helps me on good days and bad are:
Calls, texts, and facetimes. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed that reaching out seems like a lot of work. When I get a call, text, or Facetime during those times it means the world to me. It helps me see how important I am in other people’s lives, and that helps give me motivation I need to get through a hard day.
Spending quality time. If I am feeling down, having someone spend time with me helps turn my mood around. We don’t even have to talk; we can just sit around and watch a movie and it helps me know that they are there if I need them.
Help with an overwhelming task. When mental health struggles take over, surviving in the number one thing on my mind, not house work. My mom, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law have all at one point come over to help me with housework. Even something as small as helping do the dishes helps so much.
Dropping off meals. When I am in survival mode, I don’t tend to eat the best (cue Oreos for breakfast). Having healthy meals dropped off helps you feel better physically, and when I feel better physically, my mind seems to follow.
If you are part of someone’s support system, and you’re not sure how to help, just ask! They may not know how they need help, but knowing that you are there can help them feel more comfortable.
Be kind and eat beef.

Great way to explain how to help and how easy it can be.🥰
