The Sun is Shining

It’s amazing how much better you feel once the sun comes out after a few dark days. The temperature was pretty mild (by Manitoba standards) so W and I walked over to my in-laws.
I am not a person who likes the cold at all. I sleep with 3 blankets on, and anytime it gets cold I go into hibernation mode. So this was the first time W and I have really been outside since the snow has fallen.
Manitoba winters are extremely challenging. They’re cold, dark, and very isolating. So when a mild -15 degree day comes you take full advantage of it.
When the sun comes out that gives me a little extra boost to get up and go outside. I’ve had people suggest mood lights to me, but it’s just not the same. I wish I could just bottle the sunshine in the summer, and bring it out on cold winter days.

W loved his first sleigh ride. He took it all in, and if I stopped to see how he was doing he would just excitingly bounce so I would keep going.
I find myself wondering why it’s so hard to get outside; it’s never really that bad once I get out. As a kid I couldn’t wait to go outside in the winter. I would spend all day out there until my mom would make me come in and warm up. When did the magic of winter change to the dread of winter?
Who knows if I’ll ever know the answer, but for today I’m going to soak up the sun before it too hides from winter.
